Green Fluorescence Protein (GFP)

Green fluorescence protein (GFP) is an important reporter molecule that would emit bright green light when excited. It has been widely used as a reporter gene in various experiments as it allows the visualization of the gene expression in vivo.

Usage and Biology

The NUS-Singapore 2023 iGEM team incorporated the GFP sequence into two distinct plasmids: one containing the sacB gene and the other featuring a diametric selection marker. In both cases, the GFP sequences are physically linked to the sacB gene/the Kanamycin resistance gene by a protein linker A(EAAAK)2A (BBa_K4850006), resulting in the production of a fusion protein.
